The Reform Club

Location: London
Requirement: Analogue to IP upgrade
Solution: Avigilon HD cameras, Server and VMS

“We wanted a security system that was not only capable of recording and reviewing high quality footage, but one that was discreet as to not unnerve or invade our members privacy when frequenting the club. The system that has been installed is perfect for what we required with the cameras blending in with the decor and surroundings wonderfully.”

Dr Mary Piper, Chair of the House & Fabric Committee, at the Reform Club.

The Requirement

The Reform Club had an existing analogue system which recorded to a DVR. The footage captured was of very limited use to the security staff as the quality of the recordings made it impossible to obtain any suitable evidence, if required. The Club’s management wished to upgrade the security systems to a level consistent with the risks faced in a central London situation. It invited the Bloomfield Group to make recommendations for improvements and enhancements.

The Bloomfield Group as a Partner

The Bloomfield Group consists of a number of companies, the original one of which is Security Design Centre Limited. The business has grown over 37 years to be a leading specialist in designing, installing and maintaining electronic security systems in even the most demanding environments. In recent years, this has developed to include physical security, manned guarding and fire detection – in other words a total security solution. A strong management team with excellent technical and marketing experience keeps the Group at the forefront of technology, thereby ensuring customers are provided with the very best solutions at the most acceptable prices.

The Bloomfield Group’s reputation has been built on their unrivalled ability to provide innovative and reliable security solutions that offer reduced risk and efficient operation. As with many new customers, the Reform Club was introduced through personal recommendation to the Bloomfield Group.

The Background

It was first necessary to understand the history and background of the environment in which security was to be provided.

The Reform Club was founded in 1836, in Pall Mall, in the centre of what is often called London’s Clubland. The founders commissioned a leading architect of the day, Charles Barry, to build an imposing and palatial clubhouse. It is as splendid today as when it opened 175 years ago. Membership was restricted then to those who pledged support for the great Reform Act of 1832. The many MPs and Whig peers among the early members developed the Club as the political headquarters of the Liberal Party. The Reform Club is no longer associated with any particular political party, and now serves a purely social function. Today’s Reformers are men and women drawn from many backgrounds and a wide field of professional life.

The Right Product

The Bloomfield Group, (TBG), recommended that the Club install a new IP system and put together a proposal that enabled some existing cameras to be used together with new cutting edge technology, allowing for phased implementation.

TBG proposal for an Avigilon system was accepted. Avigilon designs and manufactures industry-leading high- definition surveillance solutions that are reinventing the security market.

Their HD video management software and megapixel cameras deliver superior image quality and maximum coverage.

Thanks to the patented Avigilon High Definition Stream Management (HDSM)™ technology complete image integrity is preserved while efficiently managing bandwidth and storage. HDSM keeps file sizes small, so you can add an unlimited number of cameras while keeping bandwidth and hardware needs low. Using less data and less bandwidth means you can scale up while keeping costs down, with minimal impact on network resources.

After the initial Avigilon camera installation took place at the Reform Club, an access control system was introduced. The Avigilon ACC 5.0 software has a number of fantastic features which allows for easy integration with other leading camera and hardware manufacturers, including advanced video search, remote viewing from any device and video analytics integration.

The End Results

Members of The Reform Club can now frequent the venue and use the facilities, confident that the recently installed security system is of a superior quality and is capable of monitoring all areas of the Club effectively to ensure their safety.

Avigilon’s video and access control software is intuitive, with a user-friendly interface making it easy for the Club’s management and staff to operate. The Avigilon Control Centre (ACC) software offers the industry’s simplest interface for managing video. ACC gives complete control of video playback, it is accessible anywhere, anytime, meaning that users are never tied to a particular location or workstation.

“The system that has been installed is perfect for what we required with the cameras blending in with the decor and surroundings wonderfully.”

Dr Mary Piper, Chair of the House & Fabric Committee, at the Reform Club.

“The Reform Club required a surveillance system providing great quality images, easy search facilities and a cost effective solution that fits within the surroundings discreetly and stylishly. The Avigilon system, recommended and installed by the Bloomfield Group, has fulfilled and surpassed our customer’s expectations. I am more than happy with the way this installation went and would not hesitate to install an Avigilon system again.”

David Trimmer, Chairman of The Bloomfield Group Limited.
